What is Community Service?
Community service is service volunteered by individuals or an organization that benefit a community or its institutions. Delta Epsilon Chi believes that serving and volunteering builds character and enables members to help others while learning about themselves. And, as members strive to make a difference within their communities, they also strengthen their chapter by getting all members involved and working together on a project that everyone can be proud of.

Each chapter submitting a report will receive a certificate and ribbon at the International Career Development Conference.

Passport Award
The Delta Epsilon Chi Passport to [X]perience encourages local chapters and individual members to plan activities and participate in events that enhance the experiences of members at the local, state and international levels. The passport rewards action taken by members and chapters that build personal and professional skill sets. Members and chapters earning the various levels of Passport success will be recognized for their efforts at the International Career Development Conference and in other Delta Epsilon Chi publications.

Community Service is one part of the Passport program's requirements. For more information click here.

Other Ideas/Important Items to Consider
If your chapter is just starting out, you may want to consider starting off with small projects such as spending a day at a children’s hospital or cleaning up a local park. Simple activities can serve as a stepping stone to allow other leaders in your chapter to come forward with new ideas. As participation in your chapter grows, community service efforts will increase.

Partner with Another Organization
When developing a community service project, it may be helpful to partner with another organization on campus to get started. By working with another organization, resources will increase and it will also acquaint you with other leaders on campus. Your chapter can also consider contacting local high school DECA chapters in the area to participate in joint community service activities.

Investigate the Needs in Your Community
If your chapter is developing a community service activity, it is important to research the needs in the community. Every community is different and there may be needs that are not being served. Contact your campus community service office, get in touch with a local charity organization, or contact the local government to find out how your chapter can help.

Build a Partnership for the Future
When working with a community group, be sure to provide a vision for your involvement in future activities. Your Delta Epsilon Chi chapter can have a great impact in the community if a project is sustained from year to year.
