National Officer Responsibilities
Meet the 2008-2009 National Officer Team
Holding a national office for Delta Epsilon Chi, a college division of DECA, carries with it great responsibility as well as great opportunity. We are in a time of global change and therefore great involvement, ideas and work ethic is needed from the national officers charged to lead these changes as they effect our members and this organization.
As elected representatives of the student members of
Delta Epsilon Chi, national officers assume and accept
a high degree of responsibility to conduct themselves
in a manner that brings credit to themselves, the organization
and the members. The duties of the National Officer
Team are to promote the growth and development of DECA/Delta
Epsilon Chi, develop a Program of Work for their term,
make themselves available for DECA/Delta Epsilon Chi
events and activities, and abide by the National Officer
Code of Conduct.
National Officer Candidates
National officer elections are held at the International
Career Development Conference in the spring. If a member
wants to campaign for national office, the member
needs to coordinate his/her efforts first through their local chapter advisor, and then through their state/provincial
contact.
Delta Epsilon Chi is looking for national officer candidates
who have leadership experience, are knowledgeable about
Delta Epsilon Chi, able to identify the major issues
and challenges of the association, able to solve problems
creatively, work in teams, and have excellent communication
skills. In addition, all candidates must have a grade
point average of 2.5 to be eligible to run for office.
Election & Voting Information
The bylaw change voted and approved by the 2008 voting delegates alters the make-up for the Delta Epsilon Chi national officer team. Beginning in the 2009-2010 membership year, with elections being held at the upcoming 2009 International Career Development Conference, the national officer team will consist of
a National President and four Vice Presidents. The "regional" status of the vice presidents will be removed. Instead this new versatile national officer team will be able to better serve members not on the basis of geographic location but instead by offering their unique skill sets and abilities to improving the membership experience.
Additionally, now more than ever the role of Voting Delegate takes on more responsibility because each Voting Delegate will be responsible for electing each member of the national officer team. In accordance with this change it is important that you are aware of the opportunities that exist, and the procedures that are in place, for election of the Delta Epsilon Chi national officer team.
